Sycamore Gap Tree (200-300 years old)

The Sycamore Gap Tree or Robin Hood Tree was a sycamore tree standing next to Hadrian's Wall near Crag Lough in Northumberland, England. It was located in a dramatic dip in the landscape and was a popular photographic subject, described as one of the most photographed trees in the country. It derived its alternative name from featuring in a prominent scene in the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The tree won the 2016 England Tree of the Year award. The tree was felled in the early morning of 28 September 2023 in an act of vandalism.

The tree was felled in the early morning of 28 September 2023. The Northumberland National Park Authority said they believed it was done deliberately. The tree appeared to have been cut down with a chainsaw, at the base of its trunk, with a white line spray painted on it just below the cut. Northumbria Police arrested a 16-year-old boy later that day in connection with the felling, on suspicion of causing criminal damage. A man in his sixties was also later arrested in connection with the felling, on 29 September 2023.

Speaking on 29 September, a National Trust manager said that the stump seemed "healthy" and thought that the tree could possibly be coppiced, although he added that it would "take a few years to develop into even a small tree and around 150 to 200 years before it is anywhere close to what we have lost".

The (Go)Creator!

I couldn't resist. A GoCreator is a formidable power of being, too. Watch out, world.

The Creator is a 2023 American science fiction film produced and directed by Gareth Edwards, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Weitz. The film stars John David WashingtonGemma ChanKen WatanabeSturgill SimpsonAllison Janney, and Madeleine Yuna Voyles. Its plot, set in a future impacted by war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, follows an ex-special forces agent who is recruited to hunt down and kill the "Creator", who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war by destroying mankind itself.

"Rabbits Against Magic" and "Back in the Day" crossover...

I'd like to believe that our GoCreator group inspired this crossover. Now that creators are spending more time bumping into each other on the comedic highways and byways of GoComics, fun stuff like this is bound to be the result. Fun for creators. Even more fun for readers.

Medieval door

One of the oldest medieval doors in England still exists today at Westminster Abbey, where British monarchs have been crowned since 1066 - almost 1,000 years later. The door was dated for the first time in 2005 by the process known as dendrochronology, and it showed that the wood was felled after 1032 AD, and that it was constructed sometime in the 1050s. This was during the reign of King Edward the Confessor, who built the Norman Abbey which was consecrated in 1065. The abbey was completely rebuilt in 1245, and the door was retained by Henry I. It was cut down, put in a new position, and can be found today in the passage leading to the Chapter House.

Dave Blazek's foot and his GoComics coozie.

Dave Blazek and his foot on the beach with his GoComics coozie*. I just realized that Dave's foot is sort of emblematic of his panel's name "Loose Parts." We're assuming this foot is attached to Dave, but it could be a loose part. Hey, it's possible.

*A koozie (also sometimes called a coozie or a can cooler) is a fabric or foam sleeve. The primary use of a koozie is to insulate a beverage can or beer bottle thermally.

Mr. Jobst's black eye... (true story)

Sometimes you have more to say in a strip than room to say it. This is the magic of having a comments section.

GoCreator Supporters enthusiastically support our

Tom is so terrific that we don't need help
from anybody else! Tom does it all...
Tom Brantman (Director of Product Management at Andrews McMeel Universal)
designed our pin and helped us get the necessary
funds from AMU to pay for them.

Thanks, GoComics.
Thank you for caring about creators who care and support other creators.

Silent GoCreator Members: (3)

Shhhh. We also have three "Silent Supporters." We can't tell you who they are or why they must remain in the background, but they are supporting our cause just the same. If a tree falls in the GoComics forest.... Hey, every group needs some intrigue and our claim to fame is that we have three super-secret members! Legends, too.

"Count us as 'Silent Supporters' or “We’re there for you even though we’re not there.”

If you don't know some of the information below, don't feel bad. While recruiting for this GoCreator group, I found that several creators were in the dark about these things. That changes here and now!

THE BASICS:
_______________
1.  Do you have a CREATOR badge after your profile/account name?
It looks like this:
If you're CREATOR-less, contact creators at gocomics dot com and they'll make sure you get one. Then, upload a nice image to represent your feature. As you can see from the member list above, some creators use their first and last names (or a mononym like "Wiley" or another variation like "clayjonz"). I use my name plus the name of my comic: Teresa Burritt (Frog Applause), while a few creators use something else (John McPherson is "The Tooninator.") It's possible to change your name at any time, by the way. During holidays, for example, some readers and creators change their profile names to reflect the season.

2. Do you know how to check your subscriber numbers? (This is the number of readers who FOLLOW your comic.)

Click the ABOUT button (above). Calvin and Hobbes had 360,354 subscribers as of today (10 October 2023, 6:18PM CST.) Do you feel good and humble yet?

3. How to check your dashboard to see your page views and other demographics.
Next to the bell is your profile icon. Click the name of your comic's stats. It will take you to another site with a graph, page views, etc.  Play with it and you'll be able to manipulate data to appear in a form to your liking. At present, the info is very basic. Hopefully, it will one day reveal more (i.e. location. How many readers do I have daily in Uruguay?!)

Hope this helps.

What's your early quaker name?
