G-Man Webcomics by Chris Giarrusso (May 18, 2024 -- May 24, 2024)

I noticed that my friend Chris (a fellow GoCreator!)

has a reader with some opinions, which is fine. What isn't so fine, in my way of thinking, is that after Chris politely explains his thought process, this reader basically invalidates Chris's response and tells him what he's really thinking as though he's a mind reader ("because you're ashamed of it!")

This is Chris's reader, so I don't want to butt in too much, but I'd like to ask you, my dear lame FA readers, to weigh in on this. Had Chris remained silent, things might have been looked at differently, but Chris took the time to explain himself. And very nicely, too.

What do you think? To me, it's not the content of Chris's cartoons (yes, cats can be mean), but it's more about Chris's behind-the-scenes explanation and that is was challenged as being false.

Chris and I seem to have a few things in common when it comes to our strips NOT falling within the guidelines of some unwritten rule about what a comic strip is or is not. (Notice that Chris. like me, uses the word "readers"---never fans.)

 A big smile to Dave Whamond for including Grace the Face in today's "Reality Check." Not sure if the frog on the left is also a part of the tribute, but I'll pretend that it is as well. (I can't believe that Ralph had nothing to say in this RC installment!)

Frog Applause / Amanda the Great crossover...

Last year or so, I created a crossover with "Amanda the Great" that included Amanda El-Dweek in the strip getting poop-bombed. Classy, I know. Anyway, here is the framed print on Amanda's wall in her studio. Cool, huh? The title of the strip: "Amanda the Great" Regrets Visiting "Frog Applause."

Karen

 I'm not sure which I appreciate more... the Karen reference in Ainsley Ashby's "Globetrotter" comic or Taracinablue's spot-on description of a Karen. There doesn't seem to be a consensus on a male Karen, though. I mostly hear Kevin. Sometimes Ken. Which/what name do you use?

Pat has encouraged me to put out a book, too. I don't know. First, I know nothing about the book-doing process. I also have that pesky little voice inside of me that says, "Are you crazy? Nobody will buy it. and then you'll end up with boxes of unsold books."

NO PANTS DAY

Eric Scott

Reverse mortgage

 Mike Peterson of "The Daily Cartoonist" really hits the nail on the head. How could Joe Namath and Tom Selleck be so hard-up that they have to resort to these kind of commercials? I don't know about anybody else, but I see those commercials so often that I'm sick, sick, sick of seeing them.

Conspiracy theory #1015

These cartoons by Scott Hilburn (The Argyle Sweater) and Mark Parisi (Off the Mark) appeared on the same day. Oddly, some readers seemed to suggest that Parisi is the one who "borrowed" from Hilburn (why not the other way around?) Other readers wondered if there was some big gag-writing subscription service involved. Read some of the misguided comments below. My contention is that it is just one a big coincidence. These comics are uploaded weeks in advance and creators have no idea what other creators are doing. Still, it doesn't prevent readers from throwing out various conspiracy theories. I also noticed that Parisi replied to readers' concerns whereas Hilburn didn't seem to bother himself. I've never understood creators who stay in their ivory towers and never bother to converse with the "little people." Does Hilburn even have a Creator account? Has he ever talked to his readers? 

Off topic comment: I know I mentioned this before, but it bugs me that the "My Cage" creators (Ed Powers and Melissa deJesus) seemed to suggest that my subscription numbers were the deciding factor in keeping me from being removed from GoComics. If that was the case, I would have never been slated for removal in the first place. My readers saved me. A dozen or more dedicated readers wrote to CONTACT US, sent postcards, left comments on The Daily Cartoonist and left comments all over GoComics. People, not numbers, saved me. Also, I wrote to the creators of "My Cage" offering my support and some advice. They didn't bother to reply. I seriously doubt if I ended up in their SPAM folder. For whatever reason, though, they chose not to write back. No hard feelings. I'm nobody to them.
