Checking out Halla

A photo of The Little Shit expressing disinterest about
Halla checking out Samuli's GoCreator pin. Rotifer said TLS tried to eat this photo while he was typing his email to me.

Gold in toenails myth

I received an invitation to follow this guy's LinkedIn account. The first thing I noticed is that he wanted to ask me a million-dollar question. The question was about which part of the body has the most gold. I was given 30 seconds to answer, but I ignored that. I instead looked up this question and was immediately sent to one of those sites that says, "Myth, myth, myth. Not true!"

How much gold is in my body and can I recycle it?”

According to the best estimates we have been able to find, about 0.00000005% of the average human body is comprised of gold. That means that if you weigh 200 pounds, your body contains less than one ten-thousandth of one pound of gold.  So if you are thinking of recycling yourself, you aren’t going to make much money. And contrary to some myths, gold does not become concentrated in your toenails, hair, or freckles. There just isn’t that much of it inside you. The exception is that if your dental work includes gold fillings, gold bars, or gold wire, they are literally worth their weight in gold.

Winking GoComics logo

I managed to capture the image before and after the wink, @Superfrog. Please try again. Allow your curser to hover a bit and don't move it around too much. I can't bear knowing that you are not getting the full winking experience.

Perhaps I should contact the GoComics Moderator or someone else at GoComics to stop by and confirm this. Would that convince you?

Which glass gets full first?

I know I have several FA readers who can answer this in their sleep. What's the answer, please?

This is what I assumed was the correct answer, but then I started to doubt my own eyes. How is #2 different from #3, though?

You go, JennyGirl. Thanks, songbird44.

Lowercase music

Lowercase is an extreme form of ambient minimalism in which very quiet sounds are amplified to extreme levels. Minimal artist Steve Roden popularized the movement with an album entitled Forms of Paper, in which he made recordings of himself handling paper in various ways. These recordings were commissioned by the Hollywood branch of the Los Angeles Public Library.

Steve Roden stated this about the lowercase tendencies in which he began to develop in his later works: “It bears a certain sense of quiet and humility; it doesn't demand attention, it must be discovered... It’s the opposite of capital letters—loud things which draw attention to themselves."

Steve Roden died, age 59, on September 6, 2023.

Eel imports of 1390

Apparently, the Dutch were the primary traders of eels. (There might be a pop quiz on this later. Also, be prepared to know what a "ferendel of eels" is.)

With an eel historian among my lame readers, this is the kind of information that is wonderfully available to me.
